Don't Forget: Mother's Day is May 13th

Not sure what to get mom for Mother's day? Take our advice -- you can't go wrong with pearls. Classic elegance. And for a limited time only, Mudan Boutique is offering our 6-7mm pearls for the same price as our 5-6mm pearls. That's a savings of up to $69!

At Mudan, we carry only high-quality round and near-round Chinese freshwater cultured pearls from the famous pearl city of Zhuji, in Zhejiang Province, and the tropical island of Hainan. Each pearl on each strand is hand-selected in an effort to match size, shape and color. Our pearls are graded AAA, with B-quality luster or better. Each strand is knotted and comes with a handsome sterling silver Chinese clasp.

View all of our pearl products, or go directly to our Single Strand Pearl Necklace, Double Strand Pearl Necklace, Triple Strand Pearl Necklace or Lariat Pearl Necklace.

If your mother already has enough pearls -- not possible, in our opinion -- perhaps she would enjoy some Mudan Boutique jade, or an exclusive handbag, or maybe a Mahjong Bracelet.

Dear Old Dad: Yes, Father's Day (June 17) is just around the corner, as well. We bet he'd like our handmade miniature bicycles. Read about Mr. Ma, the 75-year-old man who makes them for us.

Get them started on that first novel

Graduation season is also upon us. Let us suggest a gift for the graduate in your life: our Tong Qian leather journal with bamboo paper, designed and handmade exclusively for Mudan Boutique by Yan Feng, of Shanghai's Tree Leather Studio. From our product description:

The paper, made from bamboo leaves, is a product of southwestern China's Sichuan province, and the color of the pages is determined by the time of year the paper was pressed: more yellow if closer to winter, more green if closer to summer. Paper is thought to have been invented in 105 AD by a Chinese court official named Cai Lun. Bamboo paper, known as xuan paper, was introduced during the Tang Dynasty (AD 608-907) and was a favorite among painters and calligraphers because it is soft, smooth, absorbent and very durable.

The notepad gets its name from the authentic Qing Dynasty (AD 1644–1912) coin that also serves as its fastener. Tong Qian (pronounced ch'ien) literally means "copper money," and many believe it was the Chinese who invented monetary coins sometime before 700 BC. Until very recently, coins were fashioned with a hole in the middle so they could be carried in bulk on strings.

Graduates only planning on writing a novella may prefer our smaller Tong Qian leather notepad.
